Mammoth Lakes is a mountain resort community located in California’s Eastern Sierra region. It is renowned for its spectactular natural setting and outdoor recreation opportunities, particularly skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, hiking, mountain biking and golfing. These activities bring thousands of visitors each year.
For Mammoth Lakes, MERJE designed a signage system to guide vehicular traffic to recreational and cultural sites. A tiered program of pedestrian signage and community messaging follows. A major part of the project is a distinctive and attractive gateway monument at the entrance to town. The design takes cues from the local Mountain Modern architecture. Natural, durable, and sustainable materials are incorporated into the design.
