Nestled in the foothills of the Big Horn Mountains between Yellowstone National Park and Mt. Rushmore, the City of Buffalo is one of Wyoming's most iconic frontier sites. Working with Buffalo's business, constituent and leadership groups, MERJE designed a branding and wayfinding program that honors the community's connection with the Old West and encourages tourists to pull off the interstate and visit this revitalized frontier town.
The Occidental Hotelwhere Owen Wister's Virginian finally "got his man," the Gatchell Museum of historic artifacts, the hideout of Butch Cassidy's Hole-in-the-Wall Gang, and the many structures surviving from the 1800's earned Buffalo its place on the National Register of Historic Districts and are celebrated in the signage program. "Downtown Buffalo" includes a new logo / identity for the City, vehicular directional signs from the highway to parking and places of interest, and pedestrian signs and kiosks with maps and visitor information.
